GTFOH Moment of the Month

I basically ripped this straight from Thisis50.com but I don't care because this is the biggest pile of bullsh*t I've ever heard Fifty try to serve the media:

New Music (Sort of): The Weeknd

I just got up on this dude. I know he rocked the OVO Festival with Drake and Rick Ross, but before I saw the flyers for the event I had no idea who this dude was. He's on a really chill R&B tip. His style

Fresh TV: Suits

Once again, my girlfriend has put me up on something that otherwise I never would have paid any mind. USA’s summer hit show Suits. Judging by the name and the obnoxiously white looking dudes on the promo-poster, this show seems to be doucheier than Friday at Smith Point. Nah.

'Slavery - The Game': Nothing is Off Limits Anymore

This is so wrong. There's not much else to say. Rumor has it that this isn't a real game but more of an elaborate hoax.

Lil Wayne rocking women's pants at VMA's

Turns out Weezy F is so avant garde he's rocking women's pants. Come on bruh, you can't rock women's pants during the same week you try to go in on Jay-Z. #icantgetiwitthat You need to pay more attention to what your stylist is adding to your wardrobe or you just need to stay out of Nicki MInaj's dressing room. Hahaha whats worse about this is now dudes are gonna start wearing womens pants because Weezy did it. Damn.

Check out the clothing comany's Facebook page. This is like the best thing to ever happen to them. #spotblown

New Mixtapes!!!

August has been a great month for Hip-Hop heads. I'm not going to waste time talking about the Throne here - everyone already knows about that. Nah, this here is about the hungry rappers grinding hard, putting in studio time like my roommate T-Dubs in the gym. There was a while when I wasn't listening to any new rappers

So apparently Kobe went in on a "young man" trying to snap a photo of him while at church. I don't blame him - my man's just tryna get some Jesus.

Anne Hathaway going HAM

If you were up with the birds like me then you probably already saw this on the Today Show. Anyway, I've had this lil crush on Anne Hathaway ever since The Devil Wears Prada.

Halle Berry just turned 45!!!

This past Sunday August 14 Ms. Berry turned 45 freaking years old and she still lookin fine as day one! She must be sipping the Modonna/Demi Moore elixer. However she did it, I'm not complaining. Eric Benet and her ex-husband (anybody know his name?) are both idiots! In honor of this official cougar I have written a short poem:

Drinks Up! Coco-jito

The other weekend I went out of town for a mini-vacation with a few of my old  boys. It just so happened that one of them took up mixology as a hobby. As a bartender, I was a little skeptical, I'll admit it - but can you blame me?

T.I.'s Final Message from Jail

T.I. was at one time, like, the best rapper according to me and my friends. "Be Easy" stays on solid rotation on my iPod and he has at least three or four songs on my Fav Rap Songs playlist. He always seemed to be ahead
of the Southern rap curve and more educated, or at least smarter than his peers.

Drake 'Pause' Moment

This is old but still gets a laugh out of me everytime I see it. Come on Drake, you gotta be more careful in interviews.

Today's Funny Experience

So, the jewish dude in my office today tells me he's leaving work early to make a train in New York for his cousin's wedding this evening. When I asked why his cousin was getting married on a Monday, he responded, "Oh, getting married on Mondays is much cheaper".

Watch the Throne Review

One of my first thoughts as I played through the album was how jealous I am that this isn’t what my friends and I get to ride out to our senior year of High School. Granted, back in the fall of ’03 we had Outkast’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (classics), but back then – and now – I would’ve traded those albums for this Kanye x Jay shit in a heartbeat. Here are the reasons why:

The Black Keys - Brothers

My roommate put me on to this group/album. They also have a song on the FIFA '11 soundtrack (shouts to the FIFA heads!). Their guitar is smooth, sounds like a new Wes Montgomery. The lead singers voice is a soft falsetto. These boys are funky and I suggest you check them out.

Curiosity - Why is Sex Fun?

Curiosity - a new Discovery Network channel - answers any and all questions over a plethora of topics. This week the channel tackles the super-mysterious question: "Why is Sex Fun?" Honestly, I think they may need more than an hour for the countless answer to this question. So, if you're deprived and don't get what the hype is about I suggest you tune in Sunday at 8 PM as Maggie  Gyllenhall answers this extremely easy to answer question.

Hold up. Maggie Gyllenhall? Is she really the sexiest woman they could get to answer questions about sex? She is definitely NOT one of the many reasons sex is fun. gtfoh

Russell W. Howard re-creates "Otis"

Russell W. Howard re-creates Kanjay's summer banger "Otis" using google, itunes, an MPC, and his keyboard. This guy produced one of my favorite Jay-Z songs, "There's Been a Murder". Judging by this video, I think he was using the same technique back in '99 - which is fine by me.

This dude is creative as hell, check out his site here

Park & Bond sounds more masculine than Gilt

Honestly I'm not the most fashion forward dude but I do stay fresh. My girl made me sign up for Gilt like 3 years ago so she could get a $25 discount. Since then I've never used the site but I am aware of the awesome deals on high end fashion and jewelry Gilt offers. Well, today I got an email about a new site geared towards men who enjoy looking their best. From the people at Gilt: Park & Bond

Ignant repsonses to the U.S. credit score drop

  • Is this like when a pitcher gets dropped from AAA minors to AA minors? All he gotta do is work on his game, get right, and then they send him back up!
  • Ay man, why aint they just call freecreditscore.com? At least they woulda gave them a credit score in numbers and not letters!
Can a uncle borrow a trillion?

Are you watching (listening to) The Throne?

I am. Well, I'm at work, but I will be during lunch. Just keepin' it real.

Man U styling on Man City in the 2011 Community Shield

Scroll to 1:56 to see Man U get dangerously technical.

Some frivolous-wisdom i ripped from somebody's facebook wall

"If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines one year ago, you would have $49.00 today! If you purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG, you would have $33.00. If you purchased $1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers, you would have $0.00 today. But, if you purchased $1,000 worth of beer, drank all the beer, turned in the aluminum cans for recycling, you would have $214.00. Therefore the best current investment plan is to drink heavily & recycle. It is called the 401-Keg Plan."

Eatin' Good: Circa Foggy Bottom

I met an old friend of mine for happy hour last week and she suggested we try Circa - Foggy Bottom. This location of the local chain had opened a few days before and already it was poppin! The patio was nice, the bartenders were good, and the service was on point. It just so happens I know the bar manager and one of the bartenders, but that isn't why I decided to plug the place. The comfortable urban atmosphere and atypical wine/beer lists set this place out. If you're in the D.C. area, (and want to get like me) you should check it out.

New Spider-Man is Black x Latino

Meet Miles Moreales a.k.a. the new Spider-Man. He's half black, half latino, young, and lives in Philly...I think. I just wonder if he will ever go into bi-lingual rants when he gets knocked on his ass, because that would be hilarious. #obamaeffect

Reebok's Back?

Reebok is back...and nobody cares because the're still making ugly ass shoes like this. They're entire design staff should be fired. Like, holy sh*t, who the frack gave the ok on these? They look like a bad attempt at modernizing a prehistoric sandal, which ended up looking like  vomit in the shape of a dinosaur which you wear on your feet. Reebok is not back. Reebok's wack.

Go See It: Crazy, Stupid, Love

My girl and I went to see this Crazy, Stupid, Love this past weekend and I must say, it didn’t disappoint. From the various commercials and trailers I’d seen, I was excited for this movie and was sure it would deliver the perfect mix of comedy and sappy love-drama. It did. It also provided male viewers a guide for business-fresh-swag courtesy of a swagged-out Ryan Gosling, who I would never let my girl speak to given she had the chance. For real though, my man’s suits and belt-shoe combinations were fresh enough to make Soulja Boy tuck his chain in. Listen to me: if you are 24+ and you need to step up your wardrobe game, go see this movie.
Cougars Marisa Tomei and Julianne Moore prove that women can age like wine and give the young hotties a run for their money. I’ve always liked Marisa Tomei, ever since A Different World. (Jungle Fever? Maybe! But effit, she was the only white girl on campus; it goes both ways!!!) Emma Stone’s slight lisp gets on my nerves, but she still brings some sexiness.
Don’t be too tough homie, take your girl, or your roommate to  see this flick.

Randy Moss: Sad to see him go...dont think its gonna last

I read today on ESPN.com that Randy Moss was retiring. I also read in the same article that he's been hitting up two-a-days all spring and summer and is in "freakish shape". I don't think Moss is the kind of dude to waste his training and opt for retiring, unless someone is paying him to retire. Anyway, in memory of his career, here's an old Nike commercial that made me wish for DVR year before its conception.

Anwan Glover aka Big G

I just got off work and as I do everyday, I checked the local section of The Washington Post. I always pay extra attention to the crime section and tonight/morning, I read an article that honestly made me sad.

Anwan Glover aka "Big G" may be best known as "Slim Charles", the character he portrayed on the realest tv show ever, The Wire. Locally, or in the DC area, he's known as the lead singer and frontman for staple DC go-go all-stars, Backyard Band. Well, his teenage son was the unfortunate victim of a shooting at a party out in PG this past weekend. As one of Bog G's fans, I mean no disrespect when I say that my man can't catch a break.

Back in '99, if I'm not mistaken, the same year he won "Go-Go Artist of the Year", he was shot on-stage during a show - but survived miraculously. Over the next decade, he recorded more classic Backayard Band hits, perfecting his signature ad-libs and voice. He also displayed his talents acting alongside Idris Elba and Wood Harris. Four years ago his younger brother was murdered uptown, just blocks sways from Howard University.

His son is expected to survive.

I met Big G in passing a few years back while I was working in Georgetown. We dapped, he handed me a flyer, and I held my head high because I'd met one of my local heroes.

My prayers go out to Anwan Glover and his family. Hold your head.

My prayers also go out to my mother (like I'ma plug her name) and her friend Jay and his family.

HOT IN THE STREETS!!!! Wale ft. Rick Ross & Jeremih - That Way

Kobe is a Barce fan...(Sucks Bro)

Kobe Bryant came home to the east coase, D.C. specifically (DMV!) to attend the Man-U vs. Barce game this past Saturday. As much as I love the mamba, I gotta keep it real and admit that I'm a little dissapointed with my man's choice of team this evening. I was in attendance, (Glory Glory!) losing my voice, watching the Red Devils cruise to victory behind a game winning lob from old-ass-lifer Michael Owen. During halftime Kobe was on the pitch, hitting PK's and presented the victors, MAN-U, with a trophy and the end as well. He also, not so subtly, was wearing a Turkish Airlines shirt while he did so. (Say it aint so Kobe!!!!) Ahh it was a good game, and this is my first drunk post! Shout out to Mark Zuckerberg! Peep me and my boy Mwiti below, who owes me a whole $20, gettin it in before the match.

Man. U vs. Barcelona in D.C.

This Saturday D.C. hosts the first rematch of last seasons Champions League final. Hopefully the Red Devils will come through with a dub on US soil. Me and my girl plan on wearing more red than Wayne to this event. Man U has been making fools out of MLS teams over the past month. Even last night they just embarrassed the MLS All-Stars 4-0. 4-0! With Messi stayin home this trip and United's current momentum, I think a win this saturday is definitely on the menu. I'll be there, get at me if youll be there too!

Drinks Up!

Light, fizzy, fruity...good! Yellow Tail Moscato is the best, affordable, summer wine. Be careful, this goes down easy, and if you're like me, a lush, you could probably punish a BIG bottle of this stuff yourself. They dont sell it everywhere, and it isn't advertised on Yellow Tail's website, so if you come across it and a Beer & Wine store near you, do yourself a favor and grab like five. Seriously.

Dockers® Alpha Khakis present: The Blind Barber

I just copped a pair of these the other day. Very nice (Borat voice).

Throwback: '98 Mase

"I cant get mad that you look at me, cause on the real...look at me."

Mase's flow and delivery were underappreciated at the time, although I always considered him one of the illest. He was a definitive part of my favortie era of rap (1996-1999). He carried  the torch for Puffy's Biggie-less Bad Boy Records and became their franchise artist. Mase smiled, danced, and kept it gangsta all at the same time. Like he said, "I was Murda, P. Diddy made me pretty / Did it for the money, now can you get with me?" He made songs for the fellas - "Take What's Yours" featuring a relatively unknown DMX. He made songs for the ladies "Love U So" and he also made songs for the family "Feel So Good". What I cant ignore is the unfortunate fact that all these songs came from his first album, Harlem World, and that Mase officially falls into the one-album-wonder category. But instead of going in on him for his post Bad Boy slip-ups and his attempt to cash in on Christianity, or his stint with G-Unit, I'll just remember Mase for who he was back in 1998: jiggy-ass, cheesin-ass, half-retarted lookin' beast on the mic.

Time Travel with Sole Provider

I got this book from my mother for my 17th birthday. As much as I loved it and she enjoyed watching me pour through the pages, this gift ended up back-firing incredibly when it increased my desire NEED for more shoes. Writer and Basketball x Hip-Hop culture aficionado Scoop Jackson provides the reader with in-depth backstories on each iconic basketball shoe Nike released from the 70’s-2000’s. The one-of-a-kind pictures capture the essence of each decade, especially the 1990’s – undoubtedly sneakers’ greatest decade.

First A.I. now D-Will?

This may be the most foolishly American thing I’ve ever said (written) but I am not the slightest bit excited about possibly seeing an American All-Star dunking on Eurasians while wearing one of those ugly ass jerseys covered in team sponsorships.  David Stern, a man who I’ve always given a personal G-pass (even after the mandatory dress code) and the NBAPA have got to sign a new CBA, A.S.A.P. (damn). Understand, the main difference between the NBA and NFL lockouts is that there are foreigners with fat bank-rolls ready to pay these boys heavy guap  just to play for their squads for one year. NFL players don’t have the same luxury, I don’t see Drew Brees heading to Serbia to suit up in a Kragujevac Wild Boars jersey any time soon. Deron Williams’ deal in Turkey is good for his pockets but not good for the leagues legitimacy. More players will soon jump ship, or get on a ship, to play for more money at a lower skill-level, ruining the integrity of our brand of hoops. Young guns Brandon Jennings and Ricky Rubio have already given the NBA an unapologetic middle finger with their pre-NBA overseas ventures. What once was thought to be the NBA graveyard (A.I.) is soon to become the new hotness for players holding out for larger NBA contracts, skipping their mandatory year of college or waiting for the end of an unfortunate player lockout.

Sorry 4 The Wait!!! Tunechi's Back!!!!

Mixtape Weezy is back with "Sorry 4 The Wait" his pre-quel to the highly anticipated Carter 4 which is slated to drop this August. Wayne has a knack for coming hard as hell on these mixtapes, I hope this one can match 2009's "No Ceilings".

If Caylee Anthony had been black, would you know her name?

The gist of this article can be found in the title. Have you ever heard of Banita Jacks? I have. I also know about her daughters, the four black girls named in the article who were killed by their mother, Ms. Jacks, in a dilapidated apartment in Southeast Washington, D.C. Where was the nationwide media coverage to bring them justice?
